Guiding principles help us identify our core values and build consensus on a shared vision for the District as a whole. These principles can then support decision making when prioritizing projects. As you read, consider which is most important to you and then take the survey where you can add your ideas and comments, and prioritize the guiding principles.
  • Focus on Early Childhood Education

    • Provide appropriate Pre-K/TK classrooms centered on young learners
    • Dedicated spaces for Pre-K/TK learners that provide for smoother transitions and schedule.
    • Explore dedicated campus for early learners.
    • Provide Kindergarten classes with appropriate spaces.
  • Well-Being & Safety

    • Safe and intuitive flow of students throughout campus
    • Improve access to sports and physical education facilities for all students
    • Provide appropriate play and athletic spaces.
    • Provide more secure sites and entry points
    • Work with the City of Albany to improve the safety of routes to and from school grounds
    • Appropriate security camera and site lighting
    • Complete exterior envelope and HVAC repairs/upgrades
    • Provide sufficient and updated restrooms
  • Resiliency & Stewardship of Resources

    • Invest and preserve existing buildings through modernization and long-term deferred maintenance plan where appropriate.
    • Work to add green to school yards and provide shade for students when outdoors
    • Steps towards electrification of District campuses
    • Intentional space planning for day-to-day functionality
    • Flexible spaces that can be updated easily over time as tech/programs change

    • Modernize classrooms as needed

    • Provide equity of facilities across the District
    • Prioritize highest-needs campuses
    • Modernize extensive support needs classrooms where needed, explore co-location
    • Provide Adult Transition spaces that foster independence and life skills
    • Provide inclusive all-gender restrooms and locker rooms
    • Center historically marginalized communities
    • Community Spaces with access for everyone
    • Centralize District services and offices to provide better access to community and collaboration among staff
