Learn About Current Conditions

The first step in a master plan is to understand current conditions at each of Albany USD's six campuses. This section lays out basic information about each campus.

For each campus, you will see:

Each aerial photo shows the strengths and challenges for the site as well as specific needs identified during inspections and interviews.

This data includes:

  • The number of students currently enrolled
  • The projection for potential enrollment at the site
  • The current number of classrooms
  • The year(s) when facilities were built (hotspots on the aerial image also identify dates when significant upgrades were conducted in each building)
  • The number of portables on site
  • The dollar value of significant projects to improve the facilities dating back to 1998. These are identified as "DSA Projects," which signifies that the projects were substantial enough to warrant review by the Division of the State Architect.
  • Energy Use Intensity
  • The power source for the HVAC system

Use the text box to add your own insights:

  • Does this accurately reflect your sense of the needs at this campus?
  • Is anything missing?
  • Did something surprise you?

As you review the information at each site, consider the value of significant investments AUSD has made at each campus since 1998:

Graph showing that, per student, investments in different campuses have been varied with Marin and Ocean View receiving more funding for facilities since 1998 than other campuses and Cornell and Albany Children's Center receiving significantly less.

Note: These figures have not been adjusted for inflation.

* Albany High School figures includes investment in the Albany Aquatic Center, which benefits the larger Albany community.

Great solar access and opportunity for playarea shading.

Could ACC potentially hold all TK classes?

20 March, 2026

Anonymous says:

Move all TK classrooms to the new ACC site. Age appropriate playground, facilities, etc. Plus, it would free up space at other campuses.

18 March, 2026

Anonymous says:

Severely needs structural building updates. Childrens toilets break often, teachers sink hasn't been functional in years. Retaining wall!

12 March, 2026

Anonymous says:

TK students are a growing population at all elementary sites and it would be amazing to have a dedicated facility for our youngest learners!

Is the cost of renovating worth the small number of students. Is there a way to increase capacity or use this site for an alternative use

27 February, 2026

Anonymous says:

If renovated, could the ACC function at its capacity (200+)? This would be great! We never even tried to get in, heard there were no spots.

25 February, 2026

Anonymous says:

Unfortunately, this site doesn't serve many students. Large capital projects here seem short-sighted.

25 February, 2026

Anonymous says:

You should explain more about who uses ACC; how it is funded; why there are so few students there; and how enrollment could increase.

24 February, 2026

Anonymous says:

The Albany children’s center should be the lowest priority because it serves very few children most of whom don’t live in the district.

17 February, 2026

Anonymous says:

I fear the renovations needed at this site do not match the value it provides, with a limited enrollment outside of the district's core.

Cornell ES

This image shows the current conditions at this site. Buildings that are in need of major modernizations are outlined in blue. (Note this color may appear purple on some screens.)

Note: The second floor of Cornell ES houses 3 District office staff. The site also includes the District's offices which house another 13 District staff. The potential number of District staff on site, if staff were consolidated there, and if there was space, is 29.

Aerial view of Cornell Elementary School showing that many of the buildings are in need of major modernization and that the centrally-located site also houses many district offices.

Cornell students have received the lowest investment and least space per student, out of all schools in the district. Let's fix that.

20 April, 2026

Anonymous says:

The district already took away pines space on Cornell in 2022. Now they want to take away more space for offices and PARKING?

20 March, 2026

Anonymous says:

The Cornell yard was just renovated recently, do not waste taxpayer money by tearing down the new yard improvements for admin offices.

20 March, 2026

Anonymous says:

Parking should NOT be on Cornell campus. Ample parking on Marin & Masonic is less than 10 min walk away.

20 March, 2026

Anonymous says:

TK should be relocated to a renovated ACC building that can accommodate younger aged children, instead of cram them onto Cornell's campus.

20 March, 2026

Anonymous says:

reducing Cornell's already limited space is unfair to students. Staff parking & district offices should not take space away from students

19 March, 2026

Anonymous says:

District offices shouldn't take up Cornell space. There should not be a parking lot instead of space for kids. It's about the kids

19 March, 2026

Anonymous says:

The portables on Talbot should become a multistory building for classrooms. The yard is too small already.

19 March, 2026

Anonymous says:

The ceiling tiles are falling off in the rooms. The kids are learning in old portables. Do they pass safety checks like fire and earth quake

18 March, 2026

Anonymous says:

The district office should relocate to free school space for growth, rather than occupying resources needed for students’ future needs.

9 March, 2026

Anonymous says:

The small playground is from the last century. We hope to see updated, nature-themed play structures like wood logs, boulder

9 March, 2026

Anonymous says:

Cornell’s classrooms look outdated. Do they meet current seismic codes? DSA investment per student seems unfairly low compared to others

Marin ES

HVAC and filtration systems have continual problems. Can we fix that?

18 March, 2026

Anonymous says:

What is the schools budget on security? There isn’t anything mentioned about how the school is secured during and after school.

3 March, 2026

Anonymous says:

It's disappointing to see that there are HVAC issues in new construction. Re-doing work is not cost-effective. Do it right the first time!

25 February, 2026

Marin's MPR is really inadequate. They've had a recent reno, but that space is old.

24 February, 2026

office&library pod have faulty HVAC & unhealthy air. CO2 goes over 1000 w/ all doors open (wastes $ & energy). CO2 2x as high with door shut

Much of the heating and cooling systems don’t work well and there are mold problems from flooding in the older buildings

Ocean View badly needs more covered walkways to connect central areas like the office, lunchrooms and specialist areas to classrooms in rain

3 March, 2026

Please convert the afterschool portables. They are very old and the HVAC does not work well.

2 March, 2026

Please create a functional cafeteria space where students can actually eat.

Consider a redesign of the library space: The windows to the second floor classes above the library open up to the library itself.

11 March, 2026

Anonymous says:

Consider the library space: Remove glass block windows to add natural light (it's very cavernous) & replace dirty old carpet

11 March, 2026

Anonymous says:

While renovating the AHS lobby, consider adding another stair to the 2nd floor or widening the existing one. Too crowded during fire drills!

11 March, 2026

Anonymous says:

All new construction should be solar ready! Physics students and district consultant calculated economic benefits to our schools from solar!

4 March, 2026

Anonymous says:

AHS has a very strong athletics program and not nearly enough gym or field space to meet current needs. This must be included in future plan

3 March, 2026

Anonymous says:

Can you put in a category for district-wide needs? Aquatic Center, District Office, Cougar Field, performing arts space to some degree...

3 March, 2026

Anonymous says:

Really agree re: Aquatic Center; this does not really belong to Albany High. People don't understand that it belongs to the school district.

2 March, 2026

Anonymous says:

Albany has a fantastic music program, but the little theater is cramped and out dated.

1 March, 2026

Anonymous says:

The Aquatic Center shouldn't be incl w AHS; it, ACC, and Cougar Field belong in separate unique categories as enterprise facilities.

1 March, 2026

The permits for the elevators are all outdated (safety risk), and the main building only has one elevator that goes to the 3rd floor
